Scottish Education is currently undergoing a big change with the move in the curriculum away from previous prescription towards more localised curricular frameworks intended to ensure excellence in each school.
At Lomond we feel that our children are already a long way towards meeting the four capacities inherent in A Curriculum for Excellence namely that all young people will become:
Our recent HMI inspection would suggest that this is the case.
In Nursery our children follow the Pre-school 3-5 curriculum with a major emphasis on learning through play and active learning. In keeping with modern thinking about how infants learn best, we do not begin the formal teaching of reading and writing in Nursery but instead give an experience that ensures that the children are ready to hit the ground running in Junior 1. Being so close to a bigger institution allows us to make use of specialist teachers for PE in the school gym hall whilst our Head of Music, Mrs Phillips comes in to Nursery to teach music.
In Clarendon we have a wide and varied curriculum with specialist teaching of Music and PE but at the core is a belief that all children both deserve and require a thorough grounding in the key areas of numeracy and literacy. The curricular areas covered in Clarendon are Language, Maths, Health and well-being, Science, Social studies, Expressive arts, Technologies and Religious education.
In Transitus 1 the focus is still very much on literacy and numeracy and a similar curriculum is followed but specialist teaching is also provided in French.
In Transitus 2 discreet subject teaching is more prevalent with specialist teaching in History, Geography, Information and Communications Technology, French, Art, Music, PE, Science and RME.
