Sixth Year at Lomond School

Sixth Year

This is an important year in which senior students are being prepared for the next stage of their careers. To that end, the accent is on independent learning, taking responsibility and leadership. Every Sixth Former is given responsibility, not only in the form of prefectship, but also in a series of roles involving the running of clubs, activities, as House and Sports Captains and so on. Training in leadership and teamwork is delivered through an Outward Bound course as well as by ‘Beyond Adventure’ staff in school. In addition, many pupils are involved as subject or pastoral mentors and training is delivered for this by ‘Childline’ trainers.

Together with a number of distinctive privileges, there is a Sixth Year centre dedicated as a recreation area for the prefects.

In keeping with the ethos of this special year, there are four experienced staff – Mr David Dodson (Head of Sixth Year), Mr Anthony Laceby, Mrs Pamela Wales and Mrs Anne Robertson – who are tutors to a small group of Sixth Formers and are responsible for references, amongst other things.

The Sixth Year are important contributors to the positive ethos in the school and their leadership and input is valued.
