Support for Learning

The Head of Department is Mr Hamish Hunter and Mrs Christine Greaves and Mrs Janice Baird also teach pupils who require assistance with one or more aspects of learning.

Commonly, the department provides support for pupils with learning difficulties such as dyslexia, but responsibility also covers pupils with English as a Second Language requirements and more able youngsters as well as pupils who might have some gaps in learning that require some extra input.

The department liaises with Form and Subject teachers to ensure that appropriate support is provided and will use a variety of approaches to meet those needs. Screening tests, liaison with teaching staff and Heads of Departments and sampling of work are all used by the department to ensure that pupils in need of extra support are identified and appropriate action taken, including at examination times.
